The National Hurricane Center says the first tropical storm of the Pacific season has formed. Tropical Storm Amanda was announced Wednesday. It is located almost 1,500 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula of Mexico. That means the center of the cyclone is at sea and far from land.
